Many people argue that we don't have the need to learn penmanship, to this I say that we always need a signature.

I have to say that I agree with you when we need to set guidelines for how we interact with one another and to be able to pull from the great minds of history the idea that we can disagree without attacking is wonderful! I think our kids need to know that these men often disagreed but did it in a way that showed respect for each other.

I must also comment on the handwriting. I feel it is a lost art and we have way too many people who feel it is a waste of time to teach it! I disagree and think that we need to show our kids that handwriting is important!

Denyse: I enjoyed reading your blog. The Amish are lovely people, aren't they? They all looked healthy, happy, and strong. Glad you enjoyed today.--Matt
PS Mormons are not from the Anabaptist tradition. Their church was formed in upstate NY in 1830, long after Menno and his acolytes broke away from Catholicism.

I have always racked my brain for something innovative to do for my students for Constitution Day. I have tried different activities on the Constitution website, but they just don't have great appeal. I am getting so much information from these experiences that I never had. It's so much easier to teach something the better educated you are in that area.

Drinking warm ale wouldn't be so bad, especially after the second glass or so, or perhaps one tankard the size you're holding! Yes, Franklin is amazing and that's why it's so fun to learn about his contributions. It's sad that they don't have more about Franklin in the building - it is named after him!

I was also looking for colonial period things in the museum. It was not quite what I expected. But I did think it was pretty neat that they had Einstien's furniture there.

I agree with you about Carol Berkin. I could have listened to her talk for many more hours. The statues of the Signers was extraordinary. They seemed life-life at times because it felt as if their eyes followed you.

Yeah, the evacuation was great .
